General Questions

The San Antonio Clubhouse is a supportive community for individuals living with mental illness. We offer a space where members can find belonging, purpose, and support through a variety of programs aimed at personal growth, skill development, and social interaction.

A clubhouse functions as a local community center for individuals residing in the area with a history of mental illness. It serves as a space where members can connect with others who understand the challenges of living with a mental illness and focuses on fostering friendships and facilitating collaboration. Members can also obtain assistance with essential services like healthcare, housing, and support in returning to school and finding employment.

Membership Information

If you are an adult living with a mental illness and preferably residing in San Antonio, then you are eligible to become a member of the San Antonio Clubhouse.

To become a member of our clubhouse, the first step is to schedule a tour of our facilities. This tour will give you an opportunity to see our community, meet our staff, and understand the services we offer. After the tour, you can express your interest in joining, and we will guide you through the next steps. If you have any questions or need assistance, our clubhouse staff members are available to provide guidance and support. We will review your information, assess your membership eligibility, and notify you of the outcome within a few days.

Clubhouses do not require members to pay for their services since we primarily receive funding from the government. Hence, the membership is free to anyone living with a mental illness.

The staff members are paid employees of the club who ensure the clubhouse runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis and help the members with their personal recoveries and life goals.

Services and Activities

Members are not paid for the volunteer work they do at the clubhouse. However, if a member desires or requires paid employment, we can assist in finding a job through our employment programs.

Our clubhouse memberships are considered lifetime memberships and there are no specific time restrictions. Even if a member takes a break or is away for any length of time, they can always return to our clubhouse.

We do not offer medical, clinical, or treatment services. It is important to note that the clubhouse focuses on individuals being members of the club rather than as patients or clients. However, we can assist members in finding and accessing the necessary medical and social services they may require.

There are numerous activities available at our clubhouse and can be categorized as follows:

  • Work Ordered Days: Opportunities for tasks such as clerical and computer work, telephone duties, food service, clubhouse administration, member transportation services, and mental health advocacy.
  • Employment Programs: Assistance in finding and maintaining paid jobs.
  • Educational Support: Helping members enroll and complete educational programs, including college and other degree programs.
  • Recreational Activities: Enjoying and fostering friendships through various social activities.

Members cannot reside within the clubhouse, but we do ensure that members have safe, decent, and affordable homes.
